Pathology laboratory system
The pathology laboratory, from the sample to the delivered report.
Codon Pathology runs the whole pathology laboratory. The case is registered with the referring institution and doctor, the sample goes through processing, the pathologist views the slide through the microscope camera and saves the images into the case, writes the histopathology, cytology or immunohistochemistry report and signs it. The signed report reaches the referrer through the portal and the patient or client by e-mail, and every file stays with the case. Built for and in daily use at Laboratori Nucleus in Prishtinë.

The problem
One laboratory, five programs.
Registration in one program, the microscope images in a folder on a PC, the report in a word processor, the archive in a cabinet, and the delivery by phone, paper and messaging apps. Every hand-over is a place where a case is mislabelled, an image is lost or a referrer waits. Codon Pathology keeps the case, the images, the files, the report and the delivery in one record, with every step attributed to a person.
How it works
- 1
The case is registered
Patient, referring institution and doctor, sample and requested examination: histopathology (H), cytology (C) or immunohistochemistry (IH). The case gets its number and its status.
- 2
The sample is processed
The case moves through the laboratory with its status visible at every station, so nobody has to ask where a sample is.
- 3
Microscope camera
The pathologist views the slide through the microscope camera in the system and saves the images straight into the case, next to the scans and documents that belong to it.
- 4
The report is written and signed
The histopathology, cytology or immunohistochemistry report is written in Codon Pathology, with the images at hand, finalised and signed by the pathologist.
- 5
Delivered, with a trace
The referring institution or doctor is notified by e-mail and opens the report in the portal; the patient or client receives it by e-mail. Access and e-mail logs show who received what and when.

About the productFrequently asked questions
Does it work with our microscope camera?
That is how Laboratori Nucleus uses it: the pathologist views the slide through the microscope camera in the system and saves the images into the case. Send us the camera model and we confirm it before you sign.
Does the referring doctor need to install anything?
No. The portal runs in the browser, on a computer or a phone. The doctor receives a login from the laboratory and an e-mail whenever a report is ready; the patient receives the report by e-mail.
Can several doctors from one institution have access?
Yes. Users are managed per institution and per doctor, and each user sees only the patients they referred.
Can it run under our laboratory's name?
Yes. Nucleus Reports, the portal of Laboratori Nucleus, runs under the laboratory's own name and domain, with the public page and the login in one place.
