Case study

One laboratory registry for 8 locations in 7 cities

Biohit, an ISO 15189 accredited laboratory network founded in Istog in 2004, runs its locations across Kosovo on Codon LIS: one patient registry, analyzers connected, every result verified before release.

The problem

A laboratory network grows one city at a time: Istog in 2004, then Pejë, Gjakovë and Mitrovicë, Deçan, Prishtinë and Gjilan. Every new location adds analyzers, staff and patients who expect the same report and the same turnaround wherever they walk in. With more than 500 referring doctors, over 500,000 analyses a year and an ISO 15189 accreditation, every result also has to be traceable from the sample to the signature.

What we built

  • Codon LIS with one patient registry for the whole network: a patient registered in Pejë is the same patient in Prishtinë, with the full history of results.
  • Biochemistry, haematology, immunology, hormone and microbiology analyzers connected to the LIS; results arrive with flags, nobody retypes a value.
  • Reference ranges by age and sex, verification by the biochemist before release, PDF report and notification to the patient.
  • Consolidated reporting for the central laboratory: volumes and turnaround per location on one screen, with every action attributed to a user.
